Phenomenological Renormalization Group Methods

چکیده

Some renormalization group approaches have been proposed during the last few years which are close in spirit to the Nightingale phenomenological procedure. In essence, by exploiting the finite size scaling hypothesis, the approximate critical behavior of the model on infinite lattice is obtained through the exact computation of some thermal quantities of the model on finite clusters. In this work some of these methods are reviewed, namely the mean field renormalization group, the effective field renormalization group and the finite size scaling renormalization group procedures. Although special emphasis is given to the mean field renormalization group (since it has been, up to now, much more applied an extended to study a wide variety of different systems)

Renormalization by Continuous Unitary Transformations: One-Dimensional Spinless Fermions

A renormalization scheme for interacting fermionic systems is presented where the renormalization is carried out in terms of the fermionic degrees of freedom. The scheme is based on continuous unitary transformations of the hamiltonian which stays hermitian throughout the renormalization flow, whereby any frequency dependence is avoided. The approach is illustrated in detail for a model of spin...

Critical Phenomena: Landau Theory and the Renormalization Group Method

We first discuss a phenomenological mean-field theory of phase transitions due to Landau and introduce the ideas of universality and scaling near critical points. The breakdown of mean-field theory near a critical point leads us to introduce the renormalization group method, which has had a major impact on our understanding of phase transitions, quantum field theory, and turbulence. We introduc...

Gauge- and renormalization-group-invariant formulation of the Higgs-boson resonance

A gaugeand renormalization-group-invariant approach implemented by the pinch technique is formulated for resonant transitions involving the Higgs boson. The line shape of the Higgs boson is shown to consist of two distinct and physically meaningful contributions: a process-independent resonant part and a processdependent non-resonant background, which are separately gauge independent, invariant...

Nonperturbative Renormalization and the QCD Vacuum

We present a self consistent approach to Coulomb gauge Hamiltonian QCD which allows one to relate single gluon spectral properties to the long range behavior of the confining interaction. Nonperturbative renormalization is discussed. The numerical results are in good agreement with phenomenological and lattice forms of the static potential. Typeset using REVTEX 1

Renormalization group analysis of nuclear force

We study a relation between nuclear forces based on phenomenological approach (Vph) and nuclear effective field theory (VEFT ) from a viewpoint of renormalization group. We find the relation between these two types of nuclear force using Wilsonian renormalization group equation. Considering the fact that VEFT is defined in a certain small model space, we show that a simple contact interaction a...
